e-news for week of 2/24/08 - 3/1/08

One of the newer couples to our church told me recently they had pretty much checked out most of the churches in Columbia and started coming to Forum and it just clicks. They would say that Forum is one of the best kept church secrets in all of Columbia.

I love hearing that. Simultaneously, I hate hearing that. I love hearing that because I agree that God is doing something great here. I hate that because God doesn’t want it to be a secret. I think about the words of Jesus where he says, “From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven has been forcefully advancing, and forceful men lay hold of it.” (Matt. 11:12) Our purpose statement reflects these words. Intentionally connecting people to Jesus is what we are about. That intentionality means sacrifice, aggressiveness, and advancing forward in order to connect people to Jesus. Christ didn’t call us to comfort – he’s called us to advance his kingdom.

I want to thank you all for the great response to this Seismic Church series. God’s kingdom keeps impacting the world, changing lives, and raising people up to higher planes of life. And God’s Holy Spirit is doing exactly that at Forum.

I need to update you concerning our children’s ministry search. We are still seeking out God’s lead for this role. Pam Tamerius continues to go a stellar job making sure everything is going well. So many of you as parents have both written and expressed appreciation for both Jessie and Pam. Mindy Sams, who we had written all of you about, is not going to be able to come. God opened up clear doors for them as a family where they live in Indiana and we know God has all of this under his control and dominion. We’re still actively searching and God has led us to some excellent possibilities. As ever, I look forward to how God will provide for His church.

I also want to begin to prepare you – as a body – for an over and above offering that we will receive in November of this year. You’ll hear more about this over the next several months. You’ve heard me talk about us moving toward a multisite style of ministry. In order for the second site to get up and running in an excellent fashion, we will need funding. That’s why we are giving all of us an 8 months heads up. We’d like to encourage you to give over and above your regular tithes and offerings in a sacrificial way. I’m going to encourage you to begin saving and making lifestyle alterations that over time add up to where you can give toward this great effort to connect people to Jesus. We’ll talk more about it over the next months – but want to start helping you to begin thinking and praying in that direction.

Things coming up in the near future:

March 2nd – Pizza with the Pastors –This Sunday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 our ministers will be in Room 104/106 to provide information about Forum and to answer any questions you might have. Childcare will be provided. If you are new to Forum we encourage you to come spend some time with us.

March 8th – Painting Day – Next Saturday we will be painting the auditorium, foyer, and several classrooms. If you can help please sign up at the Sign Up Center or call the church office. We will begin at 7:00 a.m. (donuts provided) and will work throughout the day. Any time you can give will be appreciated.

March 22nd – Easter Family Event – The Saturday before Easter all children 5th grade and younger are invited to come with their families for a fun time of drama, worship, games, crafts, and lots of candy! The theme is Children of the King, so come dressed in your royal best.

This Sunday we’ll be in Acts 16 studying “Shaken.” This message is going to hit you right where you live with a whole bunch of encouragement and challenge. Bill and the worship team have geared up for this one as well. I’m expecting great things all day long – can’t wait to worship with you.

Scott
