I grew up in an unusual home. While I know that many fathers and sons talked about baseball, football, hunting, fishing, etc. and while those things were part of the dialogues dad and I had, his passion in life was preaching. As other young men went to bed with stories of Gehrig, Musial, Berra, DiMaggio, and Mantle, I was tucked in to stories of some of the great preachers: Charles Spurgeon, Billy Graham, and Peter Marshall. One name came up more than all: Ben Merold. Ben has been one of the primary shapers of so many ministers in non-denominational churches all over the world – and I am more than pleased to have him with us this Sunday. The phrase that says the most is, “Living Legend.” If he were a pitcher – his E.R.A. would be .57. If we were talking records such as a consecutive game streak – his life eclipses Ripken and Gehrig. If we were talking home runs – he’s parked more than Ruth and Aaron combined. Ben is continuing on in our “Gone Fishing” series dealing with baits and lures. We all need to be here this Sunday. I can’t wait to be in the word with him.
Beyond that, let me encourage you to make October 2 part of your planned schedule. We will have a “Forum forum” to talk about questions you might have as a church concerning our plans for multi-site. I’m asking that if you have questions – please submit them at Carolyn@forumchristian.org so we can be fully prepared to answer questions you have.
I also want to highlight the new online newsletter we are putting out. You can access this by going to our website, www.forumchristian.org, click on Resources, The Forum Connection, and The Forum Connection – September 2008.
