As ever, I get real excited by the message from the word that I will share on Sunday. This week, I’m excited because I think it’s going to be an eye opener for all of us. When I read the book of Acts there’s something about the early church that just marvels and enthralls me. I’m marveled at the ability of the gospel to adapt to culture – to cross cultures – to move into uncharted territory – to impact and change people’s hearts and minds – and to change age old attitudes and customs. This Sunday we’ll talk about momentum. Sports commentators will talk about “big Mo.” Forward inertia and momentum is a powerful force especially when it is being driven by God. We’ll be in Acts 11 and see a group of people get on board the God train.
And speaking of forward, God momentum – as a body – over the past months the Lord continues to lead people to connect with His mission here in Columbia and with Forum. I want to encourage all of us to stay centered on God and what He’s doing here. He is using this body to make a difference in a lot of lives. God is moving here and we’re in a real fun and challenging season of ministry. Fun in that there’s growth and excitement – challenging in that there’s growth and excitement. It’s true in life that with every opportunity comes a new set of challenges. That’s a good thing.
I was listening to Spirit FM this morning which is at 107.7 (Col) and 106.5 (Jeff City) FM where Karen Dye has joined as one of the morning hosts. I’m thrilled for Karen and the station in that she’ll gain a wider listening range as well as the station will benefit greatly from her ministry. This morning they were telling of God’s love and protection for the students at Union University in Jackson, TN. On a personal note – over the years I steered many students to Union – one of my friend’s daughters attends there and was there during the storm. I called him Wednesday to find out that she is well and was among those not injured. Two of the girls from the Memphis youth group attend Union. They, too, were unharmed. A banner is posted at Union saying, “We need your prayers.” Would you take a moment and lift up those in those regions hit hard?
I’d also like prayer for our elders and our deacons as they strive to lead this ministry. They’re a great group of people who love the Lord and it is evident within their lives. Lift them up as they dream and seek God’s vision and wisdom for this ministry.
We want to welcome Ethan Evans to the church family. I’m always excited that people are joining this church, but more importantly that God is going to use them to reach and impact other people as well.
Looking forward to a great encounter with God and you this Sunday.
