e-news for week of 3/23/08 - 3/29/08

What a great Easter weekend! I truly want to thank the scores of all of you who helped to make it excellent. We received great encouragement from all the weekend events:

The Good Friday service and the moving experience so many of you had.

The fun and family worship on Saturday morning thanks to the great planning of Pam Tamerius and Jessie Spellman.

The beauty and freshness of the Easter service.

I want to thank Melody Rogers and Bill Fussner for all of the elements connected to worship. Thanks go out to the choir for the great job they did over the weekend. To David Buster and to Natasha Sutherland I say, “Thanks” for leading the additional worship services for the weekend. I want to say a mammoth “Thank you” to Jeff Taylor who ran the sound for all the weekend events – but on top of that – Jeff really saved us huge on Sunday morning. Here it was Easter and we had a technology meltdown back in the booth that had all of us sweating bullets. Did any of you notice anything out of the ordinary Sunday morning in terms of the projection and stuff? Probably not – we have Jeff and Chad Craig to thank for figuring out a way to make it work.

Here’s what I think: I think Satan wants to derail us, to distract us, and to keep this ministry from impacting Columbia and he will use any means possible to do so. Friends, God has us on a course with destiny. I believe God has us on a mission and that we are achieving it. I believe that staying true to both God’s call and His word enables us to do that. That’s actually what we’re talking about this weekend as we finish out the Seismic series in Acts 28. We’re going to talk about how God’s movement keeps rippling through time. I personally believe that the book of Acts of the Holy Spirit continues to be written in heaven every time we act in the name of God and are moved by His Holy Spirit. Friends, these are exciting times to live as a Christian. I would encourage you to be here this weekend in that I know you’ll find this message greatly beneficial to the way you follow Jesus.

I also want to welcome these people to the church family at Forum: Kathryn Hart and her son, Bradley, Elaine Jones, and Sam Barker.

Here’s a couple of events that are on the immediate horizon:

The Central Christian College of the Bible Choir, Great Day Singers, and English Handbell Choir will be here Saturday, March 29th at 6:30 p.m. to present “Jesus is Alive.” This will be a program that the entire family will enjoy.

If you are new to Forum we’d love to connect with you on Sunday, April 6th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in room 104/106 for Pizza with the Pastors. Childcare will be provided. This is an introductory time to learn more about Forum and ask questions that you might have.

A VBS informational meeting will be held on April 6th in the Jr. Worship Room (115) at 4:30 p.m. This is an opportunity for anyone to come and find out what this year’s Vacation Bible School will look like and what to expect. Our vision will be cast and specific needs will be explained. So we invite you to come whether you are a parent, a potential volunteer, or just willing to collect some needed items and do some behind the scenes footwork. It takes us all to have a successful week.

Can’t wait to experience God with you this weekend. See you then, Scott
