It’s been a fascinating week for those of you who follow college basketball. This week the back story within the realm of basketball took center stage and took over sporting news. Honestly, I’ve heard very little about the Final Four teams this week in comparison to the storyline of John Calipari becoming the head coach of Kentucky, Mike Anderson going to Georgia - maybe Memphis - no wait - he turned down more money and, some might argue - more prestige - to stay here at MU. Personally, I’m elated for a lot of reasons - but I’m not a sports writer and I’m not going to use electrons for that. But if you are an MU fan - this drama probably had you on the edge of your seat. For me, this drama ended with a surprise reversal.
Just in case you’ve not figured this out about me - I love basketball - especially college basketball. I don’t know if they genetically encode us in Indiana or if they insert some basketball chip in us at a young age. I don’t know what it is - but I truly love the game.
One of the things about basketball is in a close game - there are often quick reversals - up 5 points - swish - swish - now you’re down by 1. The game is quick. It can be frantic. My wife and I have watched a lot of games together this year and she’s said numerous times, “I can hardly watch any more. It’s so intense. Teams are winning in the last second over and over again.”
This Sunday we are going to see this pattern in the life of Jesus played out on a very large stage. We enter Holy Week this Sunday with what is commonly called “Palm Sunday.” It’s called that because Jesus was treated like a victorious king as He entered Jerusalem. Holy week is a week of reversals - and this week we are going to see how God’s purpose and plan put Jesus in position to win. Namely to win the world for Him.
Once again, this Sunday we’ll focus on Jesus Christ. I love Jesus Christ. As I know Him more and more - the more I want to imitate and follow Him. He loves every one of us so very much. I hope you are growing in your love and desire to follow Him.
Pizza with the Pastors will be this Sunday night, April 5, from 5 - 6:30 p.m in room 104/106. If you are new to Forum, this is a good time to ask questions you may have and get to know some of our ministers.
Our Good Friday Service will be April 10 at 7:00 p.m. in the auditorium. This presentation by our adult choir recounts Christ’s journey to Calvary and His hours upon the cross. It will be a quiet, intimate opportunity to reflect up the sacrificial love of our Lord and Savior.
See you Sunday. -- Scott
