e-news for week of 5/10/09

I’m writing this article as food for thought.

A couple of weeks ago, a very dear saint - one of the best - Linda Fletcher - went to be with the Lord. That following Sunday, the sermon was on heaven. Many people asked if we altered the sermon due to the circumstances within the church. The answer was, “No.” Honestly, that sermon had been put into place at least since October of 2008.

This past week I announced that we were going to start work on renovation of the facility with the primary changes/alterations happening to benefit the children’s areas. This past weekend, I did the funeral for James Dudley. I communicated that we, as leaders, were moving forward by faith with this project and, while we are working on the time line we know we will need around $60,000 to accomplish this. Providentially, Mr. Dudley had asked that all memorial gifts received go to the children’s ministry area of Forum.

Friends, to me, these things are just reminders that God is in control. There’s no way on the planet that I could plan that far in advance a sermon that is that timely. There’s no way any of us could plan on a bequest being the very first gifts to come in for this project. It is just a very encouraging reminder that God is in control. That’s not just some platitude or cliché, but it is the gospel truth.

We start a new series this Sunday called, “Real life, Real people, Real answers.” I’m stoked about this series for a lot of reasons. Among the chief reasons is that the Holy Spirit of God will drive us toward Christ-likeness. Friends, as a ministry we strive to intentionally connect people to Jesus. That’s what we want to occur in your life this weekend. I’m really looking forward to this series and think we have an excellent opportunity to grow together.

See you Sunday. - Scott
