e-news for week of 6/14/09

As I write this, I’m with our teenagers in Memphis where they are on a trip with a mission. They are serving with Union Mission and Mid-South Christian College. Let me tell you how proud I am of our teens in that they are just flat-out hard workers.

I am really wrestling with words, thoughts, and emotions right now. Let me share with you my positive thoughts:

Forum Rocks!

Over the past two weeks the ministry of Forum has given thousands of pounds of food, clothing, laundry soap, etc. to the Salvation Army and the Missouri Food Bank. We have given money to Central India Christian Mission (over $2500) and to our youth ministry for the mission trip to Memphis (almost $2000). We have had Vacation Bible School, the youth mission trip to Memphis, multiple Junior High events, as well as continuing to have worship on 2 campuses.

This week, we’ll put in front of you our “Ministry Makeover” plan. This is an important element geared for growth for our church.

We’ll continue our partnering with Habitat for Humanity and serve on June 27th.

We’ll help provide volunteers for the “Show-Me” State games.

Now let me share with you my only concern:

Here’s why I wrestle with my thoughts and mixed emotions – I get a little concerned that we fall into an activity trap with lots of great things that we are striving to do and lose sight of the main thing: to intentionally connect people to Jesus. Personally, I can get so busy “doing” (a good thing – a thing that the book of James encourages) that I lose sight of “Why am I doing this?” I know it’s subtle – but life is subtle. A plane being just one degree off course will miss the airport.

This Sunday, we’ll continue in our “Real life…” series talking about having a “Smart life.” Can’t wait to worship with you this Sunday. — Scott
