e-news for week of 3/22 - 3/28/09

As I’m writing this, I’m thinking about March Madness, not the sermon series. Our town is focused on the game on Thursday. Go Tigers! Hmmmm – in this case that’s not precise enough. It’s MU vs. UM. It’ll be a night of “Eye of the Tiger” over and over and over – doesn’t matter who’s winning. I’m going to be transparent – in my brackets I predicted this would be the case and I have UM winning. One of my closest friends in the world called last night and asked who I’m cheering for – and I’m cheering for the Tigers (MU). I have UM in my brackets going all the way – but in this instance, I’d gladly accept a busted bracket.

What is fascinating is how abuzz and easy it is to talk about this around town. Yet, talk about faith and Jesus out in public and often the dialogue comes to a grinding halt. Crickets. This sermon series, ‘March Madness’ has been focused on the life of Jesus Christ and over the next two weeks we’ll look at events surrounding his crucifixion. It’s been designed to help you to invite people who don’t go to church to have a bridge discussion where you can say, as our town is so basketball focused, “Our church is doing this series called, ‘March Madness’ and the minister has been using basketball each week.” This Sunday would be a great Sunday to invite and bring with you anyone you know who doubts the existence of God and truth. This week, we’ll talk about boundaries. You’re in for a blessing. As a staff, we can’t wait to worship with you this Sunday at either the north or south campus.

Looking forward to this Sunday. – Scott

Mark your calendar for Good Friday Service, April 10th at 7:00 p.m. in the auditorium. This presentation by our adult choir recounts Christ’s journey to Calvary and His hours upon the cross. It will be a quiet, intimate opportunity to reflect up the sacrificial love of our Lord and Savior.
