e-news for week of 7/5/09

This past week we had a couple passing through town on their way to Colorado. As I introduced myself to him, he said, “Do you want to know why we are at your church?” Frankly, I’m always all ears in terms of hearing why people choose Forum. He said, “We saw your group of teenagers working so hard in that hot Memphis weather a couple of weeks ago, and we knew we were coming through, so we got your information off of the church van and we came today.” He went on, “You’ve sure got a friendly church.”

I couldn’t agree more.

It was also thrilling that Kevin Shearon was baptized in Bass Pro Lake last Sunday. We’ll try to share footage of that this Sunday.

We strive to be a church that Jesus would want to attend. A church that resembles his body. A church that intentionally connects people to him. A church filled with the teaching of Jesus. A church filled with praise. A church comprised of all ethnicities, all societal backgrounds A church where a CEO and a janitor could worship together, know one another, love one another, and encourage one another.

As we continue in the real life, real people, real answers series, I’d encourage you to read James 5: 1-12 as we look at balancing our lives.

My friends, it’s been a very hard week. The elders received and accepted a resignation letter from Bill Fussner. This decision is best both for Bill and the ministry of Forum. There’s not a bigger fan of Bill than this minister. His contribution to this ministry has been invaluable.

Here’s the deal, our goal this Sunday (and every Sunday for that matter) is to worship Christ. Frankly, we need to put the book of James into practice and control our tongues, not ask curiosity question, and stay focused on Christ. I’m encouraging all to arrive this Sunday ready to worship, ready to hear from God, and ready to be that friendly church that people go out of their way to attend on their way to Colorado.

I can’t wait to worship with you this Sunday. - Scott
