First off, let me encourage you to invite someone to church this Sunday. Based on weather reports it sounds like a good time to purposefully connect someone with the Lord. The message this Sunday will also engage them right where they are. We’ll be in John 3 if you want to read ahead. Again, thank you for the great response to this series. I was with a group of men this morning who are all striving to intentionally connect people to the Lord. I would encourage you to go to the website and check out the “hello” stories but also to submit any intentional time you’ve talked to someone about the Lord.
Shifting gears, there are lots of questions arising from the situation in Haiti. Questions include:
Q: Are Brice and Amanda Wurdeman alright?
A: Thank the Lord, yes. We’ll post onto the front page of the website an email we received from them
Q: Will we as a church help?
A: Yes, but what that looks like, we don’t know yet. One of the lessons we learned from the Katrina disaster is – situations like this call for various levels of response. As a ministry, we learned not to knee jerk react but rather to be intentional to best target our resources. As a plan is formulated, we’ll keep you posted. We all want to do something. The best encouragement, which came from Brice Wurdeman who lives there, is for us to pray, allow those on the ground to assess, and then to respond when we have trustable people in place communicating precisely, “Here are the needs.”
Friends, when events like this occur, let me encourage you to realize this earth is not our home. Jesus went to prepare a place for us. This earth bears the consequences of the fall. Heaven is our home. God’s design for your life is to spend eternity with Him in a place of perfection. In the meantime, we live with vital purpose telling people of the goodness of God, His love, His mercy, and His grace.
This week we’ll be in John 3 if you want to read ahead. We see Jesus headed straight for the heart of the matter.
Looking forward to worshiping with you this Sunday. Scott
