e-news for week of 1/17/10

As we continue to focus on being purposeful with our conversations – I would challenge you to ask questions of the people around you and interact with them as Jesus did. Last week we saw Jesus ask Nicodemus, “Why don’t you understand this?” and then quiz and interact with him. He then revealed to Nicodemus God’s central message, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only son that whoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life.” I’m being honest when I transparently say that I don’t remember the last time I just voluntarily said to anyone in casual conversation, “God loves you.” I want to be more like Jesus, don’t you?

I need to put some information in front of you:

Haiti – our mission team is continuing to research the best means of giving toward Haiti and I know many of you have a heart to give offerings beyond your normal tithes. We all want to do something to help. At this point, the ministry that I’ve been steered to the most is the International Disaster Emergency Services. While we may take up a special offering as a church, you can directly support IDES by going to their website – www.ides.org and make an online donation. Also, from an emergency response standpoint, if you want to help in a humanitarian way you can donate by using your cell phone to dial 90999 and text Haiti and a $10 donation will go to the Red Cross.

The Boys and Girls Club Rootin’ Tootin’ Chili Cook-off will occur on February 13. We will be participating in this great event again this year. Hundreds of people who attend this event will pass by our booth giving us the opportunity to invite them to church, to distribute information about the church, etc. If you would be interested in helping cook, or to man the tables, please contact the church office at scott@forumchristian.org and we’ll get you connected with the what, when, where, and how of the event.

February 7 will be the day to begin new worship times at south campus. 8:30, 9:45, and 11 will be the times.

This Sunday we’ll be in John 5 if you want to read ahead. We’ll again see Jesus interacting with an individual, we’ll see profound change, and we’ll see a penetrating question that I hope we all add to our array of purposeful questions. Should be an eye opener.

Great to have Barbara Smith, Cole Russum, Hanna Tesfamikael, and Hannah Higginbotham as part of the Forum family. God continues to work at Forum. Hope you are rejoicing and being purposeful and on target for the glory of God.

See you Sunday - Scott
